The proposal, if approved, will, as shown in the enclosed table, involve an increase of only $298 in the estimated expenditure for 1897, as the Captain Superintendent of Police reports that he will be able to do without the services of 7 class Water Police Constables for whom provision has been made in the Estimates, owing to the Acting Captain Superintendent of Police having over-estimated the number of men necessary.
